Life as a Cubic Apprentice: Isaac Edwards
March 7, 2019

Celebrating National Apprentice Week

Isaac has been part of the apprentice scheme since October, 2018, as a Software Support Consultant.

How did you find out about the scheme and why did you choose it? I saw the job originally on the government apprenticeship website in which I applied and received an email in regard to an interview with the training provider VQ . They explained to me what I’d be doing and a lot more about the apprenticeship - I knew I would enjoy the job from this point.

What were your expectations when you started the scheme? What were you hoping to learn? I was hoping to learn various IT skills that will help me progress within the IT industry. I have already learnt many IT skills and I am only 5 months in!

Did you have any reservations about becoming an apprentice? Would you now recommend it to others? I would highly recommend an apprenticeship to others.

What has been your most memorable experience so far? Or you biggest learning?
I would say learning Rapport (our software) in general. This is because it is such a vast system to learn. Also doing most of the financial integrations.

What kind of things have you been working on while at Cubic?
I have worked on multiple things whilst at cubic, whether that is Gekko trials, IIS setups, financial integrations. The list goes on!

Has the scheme allowed you to develop your skills and improve your knowledge of the industry? The scheme has definitely allowed me to develop new skills and improve my knowledge of IT.

Has the scheme helped to shape your career aspirations or decide on your next steps? Yes it has, I now know I wish to stay on the software side of IT and not hardware.

What are you hoping to do next?
I am hoping to complete my apprenticeship and then do various other courses along the lines of Financial integrations or software testing.
