Maccreanor Lavington renovates the Kraaiennest Metro Station with a modern, intricate design. Elevated 11 meters above ground, the entrance features a striking laser-cut steel box, allowing natural light to play during the day and illuminating at night. The station's unique design, lacking backs and visually appealing from all angles, addresses technical constraints and street orientation.
The technical spaces are enclosed in a sealed box below the escalators, granting platform access. Second box is designed with a patterned surface that stops graffiti and allows light in. Sunlight and artificial light make use of these patterns, forming a temporary atmosphere indoors and outdoors.
The resulting structure enhances the public realm, ensuring safety and engagement with the market square. The station in Amsterdam Zuidoost is not connected to its canopy. However, it still manages to bring together different elements. This creates a simple yet impactful design.
